A dozen restaurant owners were arrested, and a criminal investigation of the poachers supplying the restaurants is under way. The raids involved more than 100 wildlife agents. The Wildlife Conservation Society, a nonprofit group, helped develop the campaign by surveying restaurants in Lam Dong province.

SANTA ANA, Calif. — Police say a man who hit it big at a Southern California casino was robbed and killed after apparently being followed from the gambling hall.
Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna (Bur-TAHN’-yah) says the 55-year-old man won several thousand dollars at the Hawaiian Gardens Casino early Friday and was heading home with a woman when a car cut him off in Santa Ana.

This summer was one of the warmest and wettest in Illinois history, according to preliminary data from the Illinois State Water Survey.
State Climatologist Jim Angel reports that the statewide average temperature for June through August — meteorological summer — was 76.4 degrees, 2.7 degrees above normal. That made it the seventh warmest summer on record according to records that date back to 1895.

HAVANA — Fidel Castro dusted off his full military uniform for the first time since stepping down as president four years ago, a symbolic act in a communist country where little signals often carry enormous significance.
The revolutionary leader wore the olive-green cap and uniform – minus the star and laurels he held as commander in chief – at a speech early Friday to students at the University of Havana. The clothing choice was sure to revive speculation the 84-year-old is seeking a larger role in Cuban politics after turning power over to his younger brother Raul.
