Michelle Schweiger Schecter: Summer in the District: Getting Dirty and Gritty Over Obama’s Supreme Court Pick

Seems summer in the District will be heated
A new scotus justice needs to be seated
Replacing this nominee of Gerald Ford
Will precipitate right wing behavior untoward

Reminiscent of last year’s pathetic display
When Sotomayor was the GOP’s prey
Exposing their colors true
While hiding behind the red, white, and blue

Orrin Hatch now relishing the “whale of a fight”
His heart clearly not a bit contrite
McConnell vowing to make a “vigorous case”
Angling for one who shares his gender and race

Jeff Sessions, that peach from the Yellowhammer State
(Whose antics last summer made so many irate)
Has already threatened a filibuster
Let’s hope the Dems have the requisite courage to muster

The President is gearing up for this battle
Both sides of the aisle he’ll have to straddle
Seeking broad bipartisan support
For his appointment to the High Court

Teabaggers will no doubt be out in full force
So much for Leahy’s goal of civil discourse
Chuck Schumer admits he’s concerned
By Republican vitriol his party’s been burned

With respect to this vacancy Obama must fill
Might there be hope for any goodwill?
Perhaps we can avoid another knock-down brawl
As we bid farewell to Justice John Paul
