Latest Updates Sania Mirza did not have the best of starts to the 2010 season and the bad run now seems to have caught her off the court as well. According to reports, Sania’s father Imran has called off her engagement to Sohrab Mirza.

The tennis star was engaged to longtime friend Sohrab last July amidst much fanfare and media spotlight.

Meanwhile, Sania refused to get into the details for calling off the engagement but confirmed that the pair hit a roadblock. Sania said that even though she and Sohrab had been friends for half a decade she found her incompatible with Sohrab during the engagement period.

She said, “We were friends for half a decade, but found ourselves incompatible during our engagement period. I wish Sohrab the best in life.”

Sania’s father Imran Mirza said the two families, who have been friends for years, continue to be on good terms despite the couple’s split. “The two families have known each other for over half a century. Despite the engagement not working out, the friendship continues,” he said.

Sohrab is currently studying business in the United Kingdom. His father Adil Mirza said, “There were compatibility issues between the two. We just wanted them to be happy. Sania’s tennis career was never an issue for us.”

Even before the two got engaged, questions were doing the rounds about whether Mohammed could cope with the demands of being life-partner to a widely-travelled, hugely-popular athlete. Sania, who has been struggling with the differences for the last couple of months, hasn’t taken the break-up well as her results on court show. However, she’s doing what she always does at a time of crisis – surround herself with family and friends.
